Riot Games closed its offices on Jan. 9 due to the LA wildfires, and today, the company has confirmed in a news post that its offices are still closed in the wake of the crisis. “Our Los Angeles headquarters is only a few miles from the Palisades Fire and has remained closed since the fires began,” the post reads. “This crisis has deeply affected our teams, with some Rioters losing their homes and many others still evacuated. In moments like this, our priority is their health and safety. We’ve taken steps to support Rioters navigating this difficult time by providing temporary housing, emergency stipends, and access to advisory services.”
The company is also using the platform of its popular video games to surface ways for others to donate to ongoing relief efforts. “Starting January 22, we’ll be launching in-game fundraisers across Riot regions in Valorant and League of Legends PC to support global fire and other natural disaster relief,” the post says. “Proceeds will go to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund, which will then direct funds to organizations aiding natural disaster recovery in Southern California and around the world.”
In Valorant, from Jan. 22-30, Riot will donate proceeds from players’ purchases of the EX.O Collection to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. For League of Legends PC players, the fundraiser lasts from Jan. 23 to Feb. 5; the Firefighter Tristana has been taken out of the vault, and proceeds from it will also go to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund.
Riot Games’ news post about the wildfire disaster emphasized that these aren’t the only efforts the company will be taking to support its local community: “Last week, we launched a double-donation campaign for Rioters, tripling their charitable contributions for organizations like the California Fire Foundation, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, International Medical Corps, American Red Cross, and World Central Kitchen. Riot has also made direct donations to the California Fire Foundation and International Medical Corps to support relief efforts […]
“Recovery doesn’t end when the fires are extinguished. Rebuilding communities takes time, and this crisis — so close to home for our headquarters — has inspired us to strengthen our commitment to natural disaster relief and prevention on a global scale.”
