How to get Lord icons in Marvel Rivals

Doctor Strange casts a spell in Marvel Rivals

The Lord icon is a special hero icon that you’re able to unlock for characters in Marvel Rivals as you level up your proficiency with them. Unfortunately, the game hides the proficiency menu pretty deep inside the character menu, and makes it hard to find out what new rewards you’re about to unlock.

In this Marvel Rivals guide, we’ll show you how to get the Lord icon for individual heroes, and what rewards you get for doing so.

How to get Lord icons and other rewards in Marvel Rivals

A showcase for Doctor Strange’s Lord icon reward

The Lord icon — a fancy-looking icon that you might’ve seen your allies have when selecting a hero, which shows them in a different pose with that signature Marvel Rivals lightning crackling around them — is the ultimate reward for maxing out a character’s proficiency. As you play a character, you’ll increase your proficiency level with them, starting at Agent and progressing through Knight, Captain, Centurion, and eventually Lord.

You get it the Lord icon when you reach the Lord level, hence why it’s called that. This can take 15 or more hours to unlock, depending on how well you play your chosen hero.

But the Lord icon isn’t the only cool reward for increasing your proficiency. Here are all of the rewards you can get as you level up each hero through the ranks:

Proficiency level Reward
Agent Basic kill notification (auto-equipped on every hero from the start)
Knight Hero spray
Captain Hero themed kill notification
Centurion Upgraded hero themed kill notification
Lord Lord icon

You can preview all of these awards in each character’s proficiency menu.

How to increase hero proficiency in Marvel Rivals

A look at Doctor Strange’s proficiency page

To check your proficiency and see what you need to do in order to level it up, go to the heroes menu and select your best character. At the top of the screen is a grey bar labeled “hero profile,” and you’ll find a tab labeled “proficiency,” on the far-right side. Click on it.

Once in the proficiency menu, you’ll see a your character and your level with them. Everyone starts out at the “Agent” level, and will progress through the ranks until they max out at “Lord.” Each rank comes with a cosmetic reward, which you can see in the section above.

To climb through these levels, you’ll need to earn experience by completing quests, which you can see below your experience bar on the level page in the proficiency menu. These quests come in a few different flavors for each character and role:

  • Do a your role job (vanguards must block damage, strategists must heal, and duelists must do damage).
  • Defeat a certain number of enemies (KOs for vanguards, KOs and assists for strategists, and final hits for duelists).
  • Play your specific hero correctly (like gain a certain amount of bonus health as Venom using his Symbiotic Resilience ability, or enter your Inflated state multiple times as Mister Fantastic).
  • Play 60 minutes as the character.

These quests are endlessly repeatable, and will instantly start over once you earn the XP from them (you don’t even need to go into the menu to collect the XP, it just happens on its own).
