As it turns out, Fortnite and Roblox relying on user-made content can get a bit messy. Team Hive, a studio dedicated to creating user-generated content in Fortnite, appeared to tease an upcoming game seemingly inspired by the popular Roblox game, Dress to Impress, on Sunday. However, on Tuesday, a developer from the Dress to Impress team responded by saying that the game from Team Hive is not official and described the Fortnite experience as a “fan-made” game.
“We have no intentions of creating Dress to Impress on another platform.” Zac, a development manager on Dress to Impress, said via X, “You can only play the real Dress To Impress on ROBLOX. All offsite games using the title and similar gameplay are fan-made.”
The clarification comes after Team Hive posted a vague teaser for a fashion game on X (formerly Twitter): “Dress your best to impress… Coming 2025 to [Fortnite],” it said. The quote appeared to reference the popular dress-up game, so some speculated it implied an official game would be coming to the platform.
Matthew Behan, co-CEO of Team Hive, told Polygon via email that the teaser was for a game that the studio is developing for Fortnite using Unreal Editor.
“This is not a ‘fan-made’ game,” Behan said. “Our fashion show will be titled something completely different. We have had this game in development since mid-2023 after a popular fashion brand reached out to us wanting to integrate into our popular Fortnite experiences. Most of our current games are shooters, so we needed a solution to smoothly integrate fashion products from brand deals.”
According to Behan, the untitled game he called “Fashion Show” will allow players to equip accessories modeled to support Epic Games’ skins in addition to Fortnite outfits they have previously purchased.
Behan said the use of the phrase “dress your best to impress” in the teaser was purposely differentiated from “dress to impress” to avoid misleading or confusing players.
Originally released in 2023, Dress to Impress is a competitive dress-up game hosted on the gaming platform Roblox. The game exploded in popularity last year and its page on Roblox says it has more than 5.5 billion total player logins at the time of publication. Dress-up games have been popular on the Roblox platform for years. Fashion Famous, a Roblox game, has more than 2.2 billion lifetime log-ins since it was released back in 2016, and later games like It Girl iterate on the basic competitive dress-up game concept that Dress to Impress popularized.
Polygon has reached out to the Dress to Impress team and will update this story as we hear back.
Update: Behan has clarified that Team Hive’s upcoming Fortnite game is not officially titled Fashion Show. The story has been updated to reflect that.
