The Albanese government will introduce a new scheme to force big tech companies such as Meta to continue paying media publishers for news.
It follows warnings from Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, that it would no longer pay Australian news companies for the content after a three-year deal tech firms signed with the Morrison government expired in March.
